Wow. This will go down as one of those shows that everyone wanted
to be at (and will likely claim that they were at a few years down
the road). Apparently everyone really did want to be there, because
when I showed up at 9:30 I was lucky to get in by the time they
kicked off at 9:45. There was a line of at least 30 people out the
door when I got there and it was probably 50+ when the music
actually started. But everyone eventually got inside for something
that truly blew us all away. I've heard a few bands make an attempt
at Dark Side before, and some of them were pretty amazing (and some
flat-out sucked). It really is a bit of an Opus to try and pull it
off live like this. There were a few flaws, but overall this was
astonishing. Kevin's vocals on Money were just that â money. He
did have some trouble with the buttons on his machine (change drop
during Time for example), but that really just added to the
uniqueness of the live performance of Dark Side. I'm not sure who
the female singer was â Kevin's sister was mentioned? Regardless,
she was awesome both vocally and visually. It really made the set
IMHO. Some parts felt a little rushed, but that was probably just
from being excited. Jimmy really started laying it down during Any
Colour You Like and he kept it going through the next couple of
sets, too. It was great to see Jason sing Brain Damage, and Eclipse
was quite the climactic eruption of light and sound. Gentlemen, you
pulled it off. Congratulations â I really hope we get to hear it
again sometime down the road.

The second set kicked off with some Squirms action and then a little
broken string filler. On The Run was funky with Timmy's intro (I
love that sound). Moist came next. And it didn't stop. I mean
this was a keeper and a half! I know I've said it before, but I'll
say it again. Best. Moist. Ever. No, I'm not kidding. Best.
Moist. Ever. If you missed it for some reason, find a copy of this
show (probably in a few weeks) because you NEED to hear this! Jimmy
and Timmy were feeding each other funk, and Jason melted faces all
around the room. They kept it going with Boogie On and Take Me To
The River with Scotty doing his David Byrne thing.

The third set felt a little weird with the timing â it just seemed
to start way early. But that's fine because it just means we get a
whole lot of ROCK before we have to go home! I'd personally never
seen Gumbo before but I'm told that it was a regular tune many many
moons ago. Lots of fun with one of my favorite Phish tunes!
Timmy's intro to Brainwashed was beautiful as always, and for the
first time I heard a little Black Crowes riff in there from
Descending. Pssst â how `bout a Crowes cover sometime? Break Of
Day was great and I kept waiting for the Music Of The Night tease in
the jam but it never came. Slippery People was funky as hell (no
surprise with the way last night went) and Mobile turned into a
monster of a jam. I found myself next to Streitz right up front
when Who Am I got started. We knew there was ROCK coming and wow
did they bring it! (By the way, Streitz, I totally rocked harder
than you didâ¦) It got dark and dirty and funky and nasty and we
loved it. Then it just kind of morphed into Waft and the funk got
thicker! There were a few points where I really thought we were
going to get a Funky Town jam in there, but it never quite
materialized. Just some teasing and funk, funk, funk! After
Standing There, there was a brief moment for Jimmy (the smallest
bladder in Rock & Roll) while the rest of the guys made an attempt
at Over The Hills And Far Away by Zeppelin. I'd love to hear a full
version of that busted out one day⦠Two Person Chair was fast again
and it's just so much fun with that bright groove bouncing along.
The encore was a particularly rocking Savannah and the requisite
Ween cover Even If You Don't. A great way to end a long night of
rock, boys.

Everyone who knew someone who came to the show last night who isn't
one of the regular Wednesday night faithful, try to get `em back
next week. This was easily the biggest crowd I've seen at
the `Booze for a Wednesday night show and it really added to the
atmosphere and the energy in the room. I think the band felt it and
gave it right back to us, and I hope we can make that happen again
in the future. So send your friends a link to the archive.org shows
and drag them out next week â nobody wants to miss out on something
this good that's on the cusp of becoming something incredible.

Thanks again, and we'll see you next week!

Subject: Awesome Dark Side!
The show was at the Cabooze. Woody, a friend of Kevin , sings the amazing female parts. Kevin was the one who did the recording. All in all the best Dark Side rendition I've ever heard! AND! They followed it up with an amazing show the rest of the night!
